Short lived Duck Laying

So our little Uno's duck laying came to an and a couple of weeks ago. She got eaten by a cat. The cat had been "breaking in" the pen for a week prior to the attack, but it had just been eating cat food. Kyle had been mixing it in with the duck feed to fatten them up through the winter. The day we ran out of cat food was when the cat decided to eat the duck.

The same day Kyle found these three "replacements" over in Brigham City. So we now own 4 ducks.

They are like silly little kids. They imitate everything Mr. does. At first Mr. (Our male duck) Didn't want much to do with them, he would actually run away. He has now warmed up to them and has become protective of them as well. He still maintains his territory of getting in the pond first after it has been filled up. He makes them wait til he is done!

Duck Eggs!

For those of you who may not know, we have two ducks. You heard right! For the scoop check out Kyle's blog at ourlittlechildren.blogspot.com.
Two weeks ago our duck, Uno, started laying eggs. She has laid 10 eggs! It has been like an Easter Egg hunt everyday since.

Shown above is the first egg she laid, huge in comparison to chicken eggs.

Or so we thought....

The gigantic egg shown below was a monster found early this week (after she took the cold weekend off) You can see how large it is in comparison to a duck egg and a chicken egg! Wow!

Let's get up to speed...

So I know, what's the point of a blog if you don't post? Well as you can see by the date it's 2010. 2009 went by in a flash! We enjoyed a fun Christmas break. USU was out for almost a month. You guessed right, Kyle was duck hunting every chance he got. He was lucky enough to shoot his first Canadian Goose and banded bird in one shot! Within a couple weeks he shot 2 more! He was on a roll. Now that school is back in session he has been busy with studying, homework, and group projects. I have been busy at work. I also recently got released from serving as the Relief Society President, I am going to miss it! I had a lot of fun serving with the sisters. I am currently counting down the days til the snow melts and the air is tolerable again. Apparently we have the worst air in the nation. Hopefully this post will be the beginning of many more. Take Care. Jana
